## Deadly Week on Moroccan Roads

**Thirty-two people lost their lives and 3,134 were injured in urban road accidents across Morocco between August 4th and 10th.**  The General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) attributed the carnage to a series of avoidable errors.

**Driver Negligence Leading Cause**

The DGSN report identified driver inattention, failure to yield right-of-way, speeding, and pedestrian carelessness as major contributing factors to the 2,280 accidents recorded. Of those injured, 150 sustained serious wounds.

## City Streets See Deadly Surge Despite National Improvement

**Road fatalities spike nearly 50% in urban areas.**

Rabat –  A troubling trend emerged in July, with Morocco's road safety agency reporting a steep rise in urban road fatalities. Compared to July 2022, deaths surged by 48.9%, according to figures presented Tuesday in Rabat. 

While the total number of accidents in cities climbed 8.1% and overall casualties rose 4.2%,  Morocco witnessed a decline in national road deaths by 5.2%.

##  City Streets Turn Deadly: Traffic Fatalities Skyrocket Despite National Safety Gains

**Rabat** - A disturbing trend emerged Tuesday at a road safety committee meeting in Rabat: while national traffic accident figures showed improvement, urban areas witnessed a sharp spike in fatalities. 

**July Sees Grim Increase in City Deaths**

The number of people killed in traffic accidents within Moroccan cities surged by 48.9% last month compared to the same period last year.  This troubling increase stands in stark contrast to the overall national trend, which indicates progress in road safety.

"This situation is alarming," stated [Name], a member of the road safety committee. "We must urgently investigate the factors contributing to this rise in urban fatalities and implement targeted measures to protect citizens."


Experts are now calling for swift action to address the specific challenges facing city streets, including potential issues with infrastructure, traffic enforcement, and driver behavior.
